As per the Calendar followed by Hindus, today is considered as the day on which the river Ganges (Ganga) descended to the earth. The river has been considered as a holy river in India for thousands of years . The river flowing at Varanasi (also called as Benaras) in the State of Uttar Pradesh in India is of special significance to many crores of Hindus.
